Omid Nemalhabib is a graphic designer working at the intersection of type design, visual language, and multilingual typography. He draws on philosophy, visual culture, poetry, and practice-led artistic research to build multilayered narratives, shaped into typographic systems through an ongoing dialogue between analogue tools and digital experimentation. This cross-disciplinary approach spans identity, editorial, printed objects, web design, and motion. He co-founded Studio Melli, an independent practice born in Tehran and based in The Hague.
Struggling Writing
2024—2025Struggling Writing began as a workshop, an early attempt to test writing as a material and resistant practice, later published to document that starting point. Using only basic materials, paper, markers, pens, ink, and rubber bands, the workshop turned simple analogue tools into instruments of limitation, treating struggle itself as a source of creative tension rather than an obstacle to it.
The publication, an A4 print, gathers this first tryout: marks, gestures, and writing experiments recorded as evidence of a process still finding its form. What began as a single workshop grew into a larger body of research, developing into six typefaces, a biscriptual Farsi-Latin methodology, and a ten-chapter essay, eventually taking shape as Struggling Writing: A Cosmological Practice, documented in full on the thesis website.
