Omid Nemalhabib is a graphic designer working at the intersection of type design, visual language, and multilingual typography. He draws on philosophy, visual culture, poetry, and practice-led artistic research to build multilayered narratives, shaped into typographic systems through an ongoing dialogue between analogue tools and digital experimentation. This cross-disciplinary approach spans identity, editorial, printed objects, web design, and motion. He co-founded Studio Melli, an independent practice born in Tehran and based in The Hague.
WDKA Wave
2023
WDKA Wave is a radio podcast produced by Willem de Kooning Academy, exploring sound, transmission, and the invisible infrastructures that carry a signal from one point to another. The research behind the project traces the history of radio and wave transmission, from early broadcasting equipment and Morse code to electromagnetic wave theory, drawing a line between analogue signal history and the noise, reflections, and frequencies that shape a city today.
A full typographic identity, motion graphics, print materials, and social media content were developed for the podcast, translating the physical behaviour of sound and waves, oscillation, interference, modulation, into a visual language. Patterns drawn from wave diagrams and Chladni figures (the visible traces sound leaves on a vibrating surface) became a recurring motif, linking the podcast's subject matter directly to its own visual system.
